Biography

Celine was born and educated in Dublin, Ireland. Although she studied both Life Drawing and Photography in the national College of Art and Design in Dublin, her interest in art only became a real passion several years later in France.

In 1990 she went to live in Paris and began studying oil painting under the guidance of François Bard, a renowned artist and teacher in the Atelier des Beaux-Arts, Rue Legendre, Paris. It was here that she was introduced to the techniques of painting in oils using a live model or a still life. During her years in this workshop, as well as learning about composition and tonal values, she also acquired the more technical skills such as stretching canvasses and "marouflage".

As her knowledge and style developed she felt a need to depart from her sombre palette dominated by raw umber. She was then accepted into the Atelier of Jean Rougé in Place de Vosges, Paris. The beautiful surroundings along with the exuberance and enthusiasm of Jean Rougé himself contributed to the noticeable change in style. Her life studies became more striking with richer, warmer and more vibrant colours.

The artist now mainly lives and works in London, returning to Paris on a regular basis where she continues to paint at the atelier of Place de Vosges, Paris.
