RAJASTHAN EXPLORED :

Lives, Spaces, Colours

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I never thought I would return from Rajasthan with such a wealth of images...people, animals, architecture...all infused with their own colours yet complimenting each other. This exhibition merely scratches the surface. One could spend an entire lifetime in Rajasthan taking photographs that resonate for the individual and I hope my modest collection would, if not quite inspire you to visit Rajasthan, then perhaps engender the seeds of a growing fascination with its colours, spaces and lives.

At a certain stage during my visit,  Rajasthan stopped being merely a destination on an itinerary but a series of fleeting sights that aroused all sorts of, at times, conflicting emotions...compassion, awe, glee, gratitude but very rarely anger. They may not be the same emotions that you experience when you look at the images but I do sincerely hope you gain something from the images, on a deeper, more profound level.

I read Medieval History at Aberdeen University and then spent five-and-a-half years working in the theatre. I also briefly worked as an art-dealer/exhibition organiser before going into the travel industry, eventually setting-up Rajasthan Explorer.

This is my first exhibition and I hope that, just as I left Rajasthan with lots of enduring memories (some of which I never could capture on which only makes them all the more indelible), you find the images in some way fulfilling.

I would like to thank my parents and little brother for their continued support. This exhibition wouldn't be possible without their support and, more importantly, unconditional love.

I'm also grateful to my friends (sorry, too many to name but you KNOW who you are) for their encouragement and support.

I'd like to dedicate this exhibition to my late uncle DNM and my late baby brother Naveen.

Big thanks to DW for her support...amongst other things.
