CHINO SORIA,  GABRIEL ORTEGA

CHINO SORIA

The work of Chino Soria that we take this opportunity to present belongs to the period 1998-2003 and explores the essence of the digital world, which is to say the concept of infinite combination, of infinite possibility. During this period, a great part of his work was concentrated on the use of a printing system (lenticular) that allows the materialization of an animation in a single image, which varies according to how the spectator moves in front of it. Beyond the work’s natural association with a revisit of op-art, what stands out is it’s captivating method of reading. The spectator is forcefully invited to participate in the incessant spectacle of the work, a method of reading that brings to mind the telling of cinematography or television, yet one cannot passively attend as the action constructs and reconstructs itself with our own gaze.

The forms with which the artist works refers to a strange symbiosis between the world of high technology and the most primitive and microscopic origin of life. In contemplating them, we perhaps attend the representation, the work of our own observation, of the spectacle of the creation of infinite universes, given that in each work there underlies the possibility of infinite works.
