The Mirissa Tsunami Fund was set up by Andy Costain and Daniel Le Maire, and aims to provide direct support to those affected by the Tsunami in Mirissa and the nearby villages of Thalaramba and Kamburugamuwa. The idea is to plug gaps not being filled by other NGOs and relief agencies.

This exhibition of a collection of children's drawings of the tsunami follows a well publicise coverage of the project in the Independent newspaper in March 2005.  Sponsored by the fund, the children at a local school in Mirissa were provided with paper and crayons to create pictures of what the Tsunami meant to them. The result is an amazing collection of about 100 touching and talented pictures illustrating their experiences and emotions.

One such picture includes two birds protecting and feeding their nest of chicks, an image now adopted to the top of the Mirissa Fund newsletter heading. A chance meeting in Mirissa with a journalist from the Independent has led to the publication of some of these drawings in the Independent Review on 23 March 2005.
